लखनऊ । देश के संविधान निर्माता डॉ भीमराव अंबेडकर को दीक्षा देने वाले बौद्ध भिक्षु प्रज्ञानंद ने आज लखनऊ के किंग जार्ज मेडिकल यूनिवर्सिटी (केजीएमयू) में निधन हो गया। 90 वर्ष के थे। रविवार को उनको गंभीर हालत में लखनऊ के किंग जार्ज मेडिकल यूनिवर्सिटी (केजीएमयू) के भर्ती कराया गया था। केजीएमयू के सीएमएस डॉ. एसएन शंखवार ने बताया-डॉ. प्रज्ञानंद का गुरुवार को 11 बजे निधन हो गया।
उन्हें सीने में दर्द और सांस लेने में तकलीफ होने पर बीते दिनों ट्रामा सेंटर में एडमिट कराया गया था, वहां से बाद में उन्हें केजीएमयू के गांधीवार्ड में शिफ्ट किया गया था। बौद्ध भिक्षु प्रज्ञानंद का जन्म श्रीलंका में हुआ था। 1942 में डॉ प्रज्ञानन्द इंडिया आ गए थे। प्रज्ञानन्द ने 14 अप्रैल, 1956 को नागपुर में सात भिक्षुओं के साथ डॉ. भीम राव अम्बेडकर को बौद्ध धर्म की दीक्षा दी थी।

उनकी देखभाल करने वाले भन्ते सुमन ने बताया था, गुरु प्रज्ञानन्द पिछले दो सालों से बेड पर थे। उन्हें सांस समेत मल्टीप्ल डिजीज था है। प्रज्ञानंद लखनऊ के रिसालदार पार्क के बुद्ध विहार में रहते थे। बाबा साहेब ने बुद्ध विहार का दो बार दौरा किया था। बाबा साहेब भीमराव अंबेडकर ने हिंदू धर्म को छोड़कर बौद्ध धर्म स्वीकार किया था। 1950 से 1956 के बीच उन पर कुछ बौद्ध भिक्षुओं का प्रभाव पड़ा और उन्होंने 14 अक्टूबर, 1956 को नागपुर में अपनी पत्नी के साथ बौद्ध धर्म को अंगीकार कर लिया था।
